Here's one reason it's possible and you may want to think about doing just that.
Drugs are prescribed as tools that will alleviate symptoms to achieve a desired result, usually closer to health. But the thing about drugs is most of them are synthetic, meaning they are completely unnatural to the human body. The nature of synthetic drugs production is that researches and chemists search to find an element with a desirable side effect outcome when put in or on the body. Basically, it produces the result we want. But these synthetic substances always come with other side effects as well, because we are not able to pick and choose what the drug does in our body. Sure, Tylenol reduces pain which is fantastic, but it is also extremely toxic to the liver and is the deadliest OTC drug available. Ibuprofen can cause GI bleeding and ulcers. And they really shouldn't be taken together, as studies such as this one have found that the risk of GI bleeding increases when used together. And those are just the two most common OTC pain relievers. You can categorically go through each and every drug and find that the effects in the body range from not-to-bad to extremely startling. Many drugs side effects are not limited to the physiological realm, but can even go into nightmares, emotional instability, even suicidal thoughts.
When a synthetic substance enters the body's system the body has to try and figure out what to do with it. All those molecules need a way to be processed somehow, because what the body really thinks it's doing is looking for someway to get rid of what it considers a toxin. There is definitely no re-balancing of the bodies systems when synthetic drugs are used, there is a further unbalancing which expresses itself through "side effects". Now, if the body does not know how to get the drug out of its symptom (the liver tries, the kidneys try, the lymph system tries, the spleen tries, hormones try to counteract and so forth) then parts or pieces of those chemicals are just stored in the tissues. Now, expand that thought with me for a second. Think of how many products, medicinal and non-pharmacological, you are using every day that your body is continuously trying to eliminate. OTC drugs, toothpaste, shampoos and conditioners, deodorants, hairsprays, make-up, laundry detergents, sunscreens, cleaning products etc. It's wishful thinking to believe that all these foreign substances in the body disappear. What happens is our immune system become weakened and we are more prone to sickness and disease- again, often being told we need one drug or the other to swoop in to cover up our symptoms.
Like I've said before, I work as a nurse in a hospital caring for all types of patients. Physicians constantly reiterate that when prescribing medicine they are judging whether the risk outweighs the benefits. Because with drugs, there is always a risk. This is what we call mainstream medicine.
How do essential oils work to keep our body in a state of health, strengthening our immune system, and body systems?
Essential oils are completely natural. They are the defense mechanisms of plants, produced by plants with the sole purpose of protecting the plant from any elements which put the plant at risk. Bugs, drought, fire, disease, age, nutrient deficient soil, breakage, sun damage (UV rays), pollutants, toxicity, and more. The plant creates essential oils to keep itself as healthy as possible and all its systems in balance from these threats. When applied towards humans, our body readily accepts them, as they chemically understand that each molecule is providing relief and assistance combating a threat. They actually work to promote a healthy system and regenerate cells back to their prime functioning state.
When essential oils are properly distilled from plants, hundreds of different types worldwide, they capture the absolute best defense mechanisms nature has evolved up to this point for hundreds of types of threats. They are powerful agents in assisting the body in homeostasis.
If you want to see more of what we use, Sheena wrote an excellent post called, "What EO's Do We Use Daily?". This is just a little bit! The more you use them and get creative with them, the more you find they come into play all day long!

I know, it's ironic but we also have to include- Disclaimer: We are just writing how amazing we have found doTERRA to be in our personal lives and circumstances. This is not meant to be medical advice that should be followed without consulting your personal physician.
