As the holidays approach, and many of us start thinking about gift giving, some of us are trying our hand at DIY gifts using essential oils. I am asked a lot about carrier oils. In this prior blog post, I wrote about the different types of carrier oils, and gave a dilution ratio chart for infants, children, and adults. Here's one more quick cheat reference chart on dilution ratios. Remember for infants, 0.5% is suggested, and for children, 1% dilution ratio is suggested. Adults can use 6%. But in this blog post, I wanted to highlight what essential oils and carrier oils would be more specific to different skin properties, types, and conditions, specifically for using the oils on our face. First Essential Oils: Different essential oils are more beneficial for different skin types and conditions. Here is a quick reference chart to help you decide what essential oils to add to your carrier oil. As you can see, if you are making your face oil to assist in mosturizing dry skin, you would lean towards oils such as cedarwood, clary sage, jasmine, and geranium. If you tend to have very sensitive skin, geranium, jasmine, and lavender are beneficial for you to use. If you have oily skin, there are quite a few options, including, bergamot, frankincense, helichyrsum, and melaleuca. And if you are looking for properties pertaining to wrinkles, clary sage, helichyrsum, geranium, lavender, and lemon are some of the suggested oils. Carrier Oils: Carrier oils are more beneficial for certain skin types in the same way because of their different properties. So as we make different DIY gifts, I thought this reference chart would be a helpful tool in deciding what carrier oil would be best for that face cream or moisturizer you are making! Properties of Carrier Oils:
Apricot Kernel Oil
Avocado
Coconut Oil
Evening Primrose
Grapeseed Oil
Jojoba Oil
Kukui Nut Oil
Macadamia Nut Oil
Neem Oil
Olive Oil
Rosehip Seed Oil
Sea Buckthorn Oil
Sunflower Seed Oil
Tamanu Oil
Enjoy Your OILS!! The thought that we can actually use only all natural, completely organic, plant derived products in order to keep our body in a state of wellness and health is a tempting one, but is easy to dismiss as exaggerated or maybe a marketing ploy. Really? Do these essential oils really work to help keep my body in a state of wellness?
Here's one reason it's possible and you may want to think about doing just that. All You Ever Wanted to Know About Getting Your Oil On- The why and where of topical application8/8/2014 By the time Sheena and I started using doTERRA essential oils we had already had some experience using generic essential oils, but nothing as pure and powerful as doTERRA. We realized that we had "enough" information about what essential oils are, how they work, what they can do for the body, and how they should be used. But because doTERRA oils are such a higher quality oil than anything we had ever used, we realized that we did not want to treat this new found treasure with such a casual attitude. And that is how we still feel. We don't want to know just "enough", we want to be GURUS! (Ok, maybe just well informed :))
So one of the first questions I had that knew I needed to learn more about was: Where should we apply essential oils? |
