I have to give amazing props to my beautiful wife, Sheena. It's so much like a guy to be thinking that I would bring about this amazing change to my family by leading them to greener pastures (of course in the direction I thought best). But then this amazing change happens by getting introduced to dōTERRA , and Sheena is the one leading the charge. She's a ninja, that one; I should have known by now :) It's pretty humbling!
Anyway, I'm not going to geek out till your eyes glaze over on this one. Short and to the point!
On to the five qualifiers listed before for any business we'd start:
1. It would have to be able to scale easily.
It can! In the effort of being as transparent with all our readers as possible, we have 50 people on our team. As more people share about dōTERRA it grows. That simple. We love the product and tell people, who tell people, who tell people... The cool thing is, if the product was no good people would not be telling their friends. End of story. Check out google trends chart for online searches for dōTERRA since the company's inception. By 2015 this will be a 7 year old billion dollar company.
Although dōTERRA has an amazing structure of support, this is truly Sheena's and my company! We give classes when we want, talk to people when we want, come up with advertising like we want, etc. Yet the framework is already there, no worries for us. We don't worry about "setting up" anything. Distribution, customer service numbers, supply, manufacturing, is NOT on our to do list.
3. Large market.
Check. Let's see... Healthcare. I talked with three coworkers at work the other day I had never talked to about dōTERRA before. One had a daughter with health issues, one had a bad sinus/respiratory issue, one had backaches after work. I was able to give samples of dōTERRA to all three. I am an RN. This is my joy! And lets see, do you have kids? Do you know someone with kids? Ever seen a sick kid? So much to offer that truly helps people.
4. Easy to enter market.
Sheena and I decided to be a builder team and enter the business side of things (mind you, you don't have to start a business that's just what we did. You can get a membership for $35 dollars to get wholesale prices and never have to do or buy single thing after that). It cost about $150, which will be our repeating order every month. Now if we never enrolled anyone else and after a year we went down in a fiery, flaming, ball of glory- the end result would be $1800 out of pocket and a bunch of great product in our medicine cabinet and pantry. The average startup cost for a small business is over $30,000. Not to shabby for a worst, worst case scenario.
In an ok scenario we share about our love of dōTERRA and five people in the whole year get interested and enroll. Then the $150 a month is covered and we don't lose anything and we still get $150 month in great product to put in our medicine cabinet and pantry.
Now in a great, but altogether very reachable, scenario we are diligent, hardworking, and passionate about what we do and we share it often, then there is literally very little that can cap any type of upside potential. Plus we still have a lot of great product in our medicine cabinet and pantry!
5. It has to be something that both Sheena and I are passionate about.
YES! It is exciting to see people have significant changes in their life and know you are a part of making that happen. We love seeing people connect with natural ways to benefit the body and change their lifestyle. It's something worth waking up for.
Thanks!
Jason and Sheena
