I am NOT a fan of regular alcohol based hand sanitizers. My hands DEFINITELY do not like them. They get all red and chapped from using them. I also am not a fan of any soap that has the word "antibacterial" in it. I just do not want to contribute to the growing population of antibiotic resistant superbugs out there. But that's a story for another blog post. However, I am a fan of this super simple, yet super effective essential oil hand sanitizer. It has all the benefits of a natural hand sanitizer with antibacterial properties, without the hand drying, super bug promoting qualities of its chemically based counterparts. As a plus, it is moisturizing and healing for your skin.

I extremely dislike bathrooms, mainly because of mildew and soap scum! In fact, I HATE mildew with a passion. But when you live in a tropical environment, it seems to have a mind of it's own on how fast it's going to grow. Bathroom deep cleaners have a ton of chemicals in them that are harmful to our health and our children's health. I've tried "natural" cleaners before with varying degrees of success. But this recipe works amazingly!! So here you go! Clean that gunk away! Bathroom Scum Cleaner 3/4 rounded cup baking soda 1/4 cup liquid castile soap 1 tablespoon water 3 tablespoon vinegar 5-10 drops dōTERRA Lemon essential oil (you can also substitute Lime or use Lime instead if you are going to clean the oven and need a good degreaser). Mix the baking soda and liquid soap together Then add the water and stir Add the vinegar and wait for it to settle Add the lemon oil Store in an airtight glass container Bonus: Toilet Bowl Cleaner 1/2 cup baking soda 5 drops dōTERRA Melaleuca essential oil 1/4 cup vinegar Add ingredients directly to a partially drained bowl. As it reacts, scrub the toilet. This combination is intended for one use at a time. These are super easy to make, all natural with none of the chemicals and pesticides in mainstream fabric softener, and make your laundry soft and smell good as a bonus!! And supposedly, they also save energy and lessen the time it takes for your clothes to dry!
I don't know about you, but more often than I want to admit, I will reach into my diaper bag searching for an elusive diaper, or a spoon, or a toy to keep a child quiet, and come up with something I wish I hadn't. Whether it be old crushed up food, a forgotten pooped on pair of shorts, or any other random grossness. Finding the time to clean out my diaper bag is a very necessary thing these days. I found this great page from doTERRA with all sorts of great recipes to makeover your diaper bag, adding in natural, holistic alternatives to replace the chemical laden items we normally keep in our diaper bag, wipes, diaper cream, etc. Plus, these natural items will make your diaper bag smell great! Something that is often very needed in my own experience.

Also the same oils in these recipes can be used topically (rub them on) or aromatically (drop them in your hands and cup and breathe or use in a diffuser). Please only use doTERRA Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils when using essential oils internally as you don't want to be putting any impurities, chemicals, or solvents in your body! Sometimes a sore throat can strike out of nowhere. It doesn't have to be flu season, you could have been feeling fine just that morning a few hours ago, and suddenly-BAM! Your rubbing your throat and it feels like your attempting to swallow a softball. This actually happened to me (Jason) at work about 1 month ago. At 12:00 there was no hint of anything wrong, and at 3:00 I was in pain. I hadn't brought any doTERRA essential oils with me (though now Sheena and I are getting little keychains you can pack samples in) and my only defense was a few cough drops.
As soon as I got home I went straight for the essential oils. I did not even think to look up a certain oil recipe or protocol for sore throat. I just grabbed the oregano since I know it has antibacterial properties. I gargled with the Oregano that night, and immediately saw an immediate difference on the level of pain I was feeling. Here are some of the oils great for a sore throat from www.everythingessential.me: "Mild: At outset 2-3 drops Lavender topically to throat every 15-20 minutes. Strong: Place a mouthful of warm water in a shot glass (small glass) and add 2 drops each of Lemon and On Guard. Gargle as long as possible and then swallow. Repeat every hour or two until pain subsides. Continue then 2 or 3 times a day for at least two days. Strongest: Add 1 - 2 drops Oregano and gargle, swallow if you can. Otherwise spit out, and then drink water and let that residue coat your throat. This may be too hot for some. For children: Use Mild or Strong oils recommended above highly diluted and applied topically on throat, around ears, and on bottoms of feet. At least 3-4 times daily for 2-3 days. If treatment begins after heavy soreness has developed, use the previous application coupled with either a topical neck ointment, lymphatic massage, and/or a neck compress. Make the ointment with 10 drops of carrier oil and 1 drop each of Lemon and Oregano oil. Wrap the neck with a warm compress with 1 or 2 drops of oil added. If laryngitis has developed, use Oregano and Marjoram or Frankincense as a gargle. You can also add the oils to a warm Tablespoon of Honey and take it that way, or add a tablespoon of honey and two drops of Lemon to a cup of hot tea for immediate soothing. For Immune Support: apply On Guard, Lemon, and Oregano topically on feet and back of neck, ear and spine, or take two drops each internally in a capsule (adult only).
