Their recipe is as follows:
4 Cups - hot tap water
1 Fels-Naptha soap bar
1 Cup - Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda
½ Cup Borax
10-15 drops Essential Oils
This recipe yields 10 gallons! Being that I did not need 10 gallons, I divided this recipe by fourth to to make 2 1/2 gallons instead. Here's my recipe:
2 cups boiling water
1/4 bar of Fels-Naptha soap bar.
1/4th cup of Arm and Hammer Super Washing Soda
1/8th cup Borax
10 drops Essential Oils
Grate the soap bar into 2 cups of boiling water. Stir until melted. Add the washing soda and borax. Stir some more. Poor into a large bowl or bucket that can hold a gallon of water. Fill it up with a gallon of hot water, while continuing to stir. Cover the bowl or bucket, and let sit overnight. During the night, it will gel up. In the morning, stir it again, until it is liquid and add your essential oils. I added doTERRA Melaluca essential oil, 5 drops, and doTERRA Lemon essential oil, 5 drops. Mix another gallon and a half of water in with the soap and poor into bottles (I used a couple old laundry detergent bottles that were just over a gallon each.) And you are done!!!
The soap bar, washing soda, and borax were all a couple dollars each, and the essential oils cost me about 9 cents per drop which equals to .90cents. So I used only a fourth of the soap bar, and have a TON left of the Washing Soda and Borax, so I don't know in total what this cost me but I'm gonna guess around 1.50 or 1.75 for 2 1/2 gallons worth. Not bad...not bad at all. I'm never buying Laundry Soap again!
