I'm sure most of us have read the "Dirty Dozen" lists for fruits and vegetables and cringed. I have to admit, I'd love to say I'm one of those amazing green thumb house wives who can somehow manage to feed their family for a year from the fruit of their hard work, but my gardening is pathetic to say the least. Pretty much all we get is basil and different types of greens, and maybe a cherry tomato or two. And of course I TRY to shop organically as much as possible; buy hey sometimes, IT'S JUST EXPENSIVE! I admit there are many times where I've grabbed a pesticide laden fruit or vegetable off the produce shelf, cringed, and walked out the door. So this recipe is for those times (which happen probably more often than I want to admit). But this is also good for just cleaning your garden produce or local, organic produce as well. ;) And it's super simple!
The following will clean toxic preservative and also help fruit and vegetables keep longer because it washes off germs and pathogens that can cause mold or rotting.
- Add a few drops of Lemon, Wild Orange, Citrus Bliss or even On Guard to a large sink or bowl of water.
- Place fruits or vegetables in a colander lower into the water and agitate for a few minutes. (Can be used with several batches.)
2 TB white vinegar
5 drops Lemon
3 drops Wild Orange
2 drops On Guard
Fill the rest of the spray bottle (I have a 8 oz one) up with water. Shake well before every use!
